A Magical Moment with Sarah Marince
Sarah Marnice

Country music singer and Pittsburgh native, Sarah Marince, shares her magical moment.
'On April 22, 2007 one of my biggest dreams became a reality. During my sophomore year of high school, I became aware of an up and coming country artist named Taylor Swift. As I was listening to her music online, I immediately became a huge fan, memorizing all of her songs and even beginning to take an interest in song writing myself. This 16-year old blonde, songwriter from Reading, PA inspired me to further pursue my interest in country music.
After a few trips to Nashville and performing shows in Pittsburgh, I finally got the call one day asking if I would open for Taylor Swift when she came through Pittsburgh. I was thrilled. Finally I would be meeting the girl who inspired me to write my first song, a song that ended up being about shopping, my favorite hobby.  I practiced everyday for the show, and when it came to show time I was as excited as could be. I sang my 40 minute set and then went back stage and ran into Taylor Swift herself! She was even sweeter than I imagined. As she tuned her guitar, we talked about school, clothes, and of course, boys. I was on cloud nine.  I was sitting in my seat watching the show, when all of a sudden Taylor Swift said "Let's hear it for Sarah Marince. Please Pittsburgh, do me a favor and get behind this girl." This was truly a magical moment for me. Her generosity to me as an artist is something that I will treasure forever. When I am headlining shows someday, I will remember to be generous to someone on their way up and create a magical moment for them!'

 In Harmony with Kids!

"We had a family of six take this trip to see John Tesh in Concert. The family consists of three adopted children who are blind, two of whom are in wheelchairs.  Brandon, who is seven years old, listens to his idol John Tesh on public radio everyday. During the intermission, much to our surprise and delight, a signed copy of John's CD was presented to Brandon!  He was overjoyed and his parents began to cry.  We were invited to stay to meet and talk to Mr. Tesh privately following the concert.  Mr. Tesh was so kind as he learned that, although Brandon was blind, he could play John's songs on the piano by ear.  Mr. Tesh went to great lengths talking with him and his mom and said when he comes back to Pittsburgh, he will invite him on stage to play along side of John.
This memory will never be forgotten.  The events our agency is able to attend through Tickets for Kids makes a real difference in these young lives."

Radio City Rockettes
The Perfect Gift for Deserving Children

Those world famous high kicks and precise dance moves were performed live for hundreds of underprivileged children and their families during a special evening of entertainment this November.  The Radio City Christmas Spectacular, starring the talented Radio City Rockettes, returned to Pittsburgh for only the second time ever.  And otherwise overlooked kids were special guests thanks to the generosity of Child Watch of Pittsburgh!

Child Watch of Pittsburgh is a non-profit coalition focused on advocating for all our children, educating the community about the problems of at-risk children, and mobilizing our citizens to achieve collaborative and innovative solutions. In addition to selling tickets to a private performance benefiting their organization, Child Watch also accepted donations to help Tickets for Kids Charities send children and families from our partnering agencies that would otherwise not be able to attend the show.

A Christmas tradition for over 75 years has become a reality for our children.  What a truly beautiful holiday gift for families who sometimes have little to celebrate.

Oh, What a Night at the Cirque Benefit!

On October 10, fabulous food, time with new and old friends, and a mesmerizing performance of Cirque du Soleil®'s Alegria, added up to a delightful Saturday evening for the guests attending Tickets for Kids® Charities benefit, held at the Petersen Events Center. Our heartfelt thanks to Cirque du Soleil for donating the block of tickets that was used for this benefit and also for providing thousands of opportunities throughout the year for at-risk teens in United States and Canada.

A special thank you to the following sponsors and the many guests who attended. More than $34,000 was raised, thus assuring many future magical moments.... lifetime memories for our kids.

August Wilson Center for African American Culture

In the midst of economic uncertainty, the new August Wilson Center for African American Culture is a brilliant ray of hope and truly something to talk about for Tickets for Kids' kids, and all Pittsburghers. The August Wilson Center is a significant celebration of African Americans' impact on Pittsburgh and the world. Thanks to strong community support, the Center opened its doors in September 2009.

The August Wilson Center is partnering with Tickets for Kids to make certain our children and their families are able to benefit from all the center has to offer. Our kids and families buzzed about attending Philadanco, one of the first performances staged at the Center:

"One student told me that she now understands why studying African dance is so important. She recognized the influence throughout the performance. Thank you for a wonderful opportunity!" -Chaperone with Family Center

In addition to performances, the August Wilson Center also offers visual and education programs, galleries, classrooms, a 486-seat theater, a gift shop, a cafe, and many multipurpose spaces to the public. What an exceptionally important cultural contribution to Western Pennsylvania and our children!
